A few months ago one of my local pen friends moved to another state-BOO! But before he left he very generously gifted me with samples of his limited edition Montblanc inks. I don’t have enough ink to do full reviews of them, but I thought it would be fun to look for similar inks for each one.

So we are going to look at 11 different Montblanc LE inks.

JFK Navy Blue was released in 2014 as part of the Great Characters collection. It’s darker than Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-kai but lighter than Lamy Benitoite.

Seasons Greetings (I think is from 2008) is similar to Kobe #27 Kounan Maroon.

Love You is similar to Pelikan Edelstein Star Ruby, and lighter than Kaweco Ruby Red.

James Dean is more vibrant than Montblanc Red Fox, and a bit lighter than Diamine Blood Orange.

Leather Orange is a very unsaturated orange, almost a pink. The closest ink I have is J Herbin Rouille d’Ancre.

There are a lot of inks similar to Lucky Yellow, one of my favorites is Sailor 770.

White Forest from 2008 is similar to Colorverse Laurel.

Vetiver Green was a recent addition too the Elixir collection, and is very light and unsaturated, almost a lighter version of Lennon Tool Bar Pomelo.

Leo Tolstoy Sky Blue is similar to Robert Oster Carolina Blue.

BMW Blue is close to Colorverse Crystal Planet.

Homage to Homer is between Sailor Ink Studio 440 and Colorverse Horizon.

Overall, I enjoyed these inks for the most part. I think Leather Orange is the most unique out of the bunch, but I don’t particularly love the color.
