Ink Review #1771: Vinta Karnival
/Vinta Summer Green Karnival 1908 is from Vinta’s Series 2 collection. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.
*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.
Swabs:
In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has some pretty shading.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
*For my writing samples I use:
Vintage Mabie Todd Swan (flex nib)
Taroko Enigma notebooks (68gsm TR)
Dry time: 30 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering: None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: high shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.
On 20 lb copy paper there is some feathering in all nib sizes.
Comparison Swabs:
Karnival is more minty and paler than these other greens. Click here to see the green inks together.
Longer writing:
I used a Franklin-Christoph 45 Kelly Green with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had a dry flow.
Overall, this is a pretty minty green, but rather on the dry side. It can be too light in the smaller nib sizes so it’s definitely not for everyone, but it would be fabulous for art.
