Ink Review #1801: KWZ IG Red 1

KWZ IG Red #1 is from KWZ’s Iron Gall collection. You can find this ink for sale at Appelboom.

The color:

IG Red starts out a deep red but dries to a muted purple.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink is darker and turns black in places.

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper there is some feathering in all nib sizes as well as a bit of bleeding.

Longer writing:

I used a Pelikan M205 Star Ruby with a fine nib on a Taroko Breeze notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, this ink ink dries to a nice purple. It’s well behaved with medium water resistance.

Ink Review #1800: Private Reserve Violet-Silver

Private Reserve Violet-Silver is from Private Reserve’s Pearlescent collection. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Violet is a medium purple ink with lots of shimmer.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has so much shimmer that you can only see the base color where it feathers.

Dry time: 20 seconds

Water resistance: High

Feathering: Low

Show through: Medium

Longer writing:

I used a Franklin-Christoph 45 Purpurarium with a medium nib on a Taroko Breeze notebook. The ink had a wet flow.

Overall, this ink bleeds way too much for me. It even bleeds through Tomoe River 68 in a fine nib.

Delicious Sleep is a medium violet ink.

Private Reserve Infinity Violet is from Private Reserve’s Infinity collection. These inks are designed to perform well even if you leave the cap off your pen for a while. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

Overall, this is a nice ink but at 40 seconds dry time I wouldn’t call it a fast dry ink.

Arabian Rose is a dusky mauve purple.

Plum is a bright magenta, right in-between pink and purple.
