Ink Review #1253: Diamine Violet

Diamine Violet is a lovely medium purple ink. I purchased my bottle of ink from Cult Pens.

The color:

Violet is a medium blue-violet.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has some pretty gold sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 15 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: Low

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, medium gold sheen, and no shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was some feathering and bleeding in most nib sizes.

Longer writing:

I used a Platinum 3776 Nice Lavande with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I enjoyed this ink. It’s well behaved, affordable and looks great in my Platinum Nice Lavande.

Ink Review #1252: Robert Oster Sushi

Robert Oster Sushi is a lovely bright pink. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Pen Chalet (aff. link) and Vanness Pens.

The color:

Sushi is a medium bubblegum pink with a slight coral tone.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks more pink, less coral.

I used a Sailor Pro Gear Sparkling Pink with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I love the color of this ink. I do wish it had a little bit more shading, but I still love it even without a lot of shading. I think I will reach for this ink most often in the springtime.

Ink Review #1251: Diamine Vermillion

Diamine Vermillion has been in my ink drawer for quite a while, but the color never grabbed me so it took me a while to get around to reviewing it. I purchased my bottle of ink from Cult Pens.

The color:

Vermillion is a medium red with a slight orange undertone.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks less saturated.

I used a Pilot Custom 74 Merlot with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, this ink is well behaved and affordable, I just don’t love the color. It’s a bit too orange for me, and has no shading or sheen.

Ink Review #1250: Monteverde Monteverde Green

Monteverde Monteverde Green has been on my list to try for a while. I’m trying to finish reviewing all of the Monteverde inks so it’s Monteverde Green’s turn today. You can find this ink at Pen Chalet (aff. link) or Vanness Pens.

The color:

Monteverde Green is a dark forest green.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has a little bit of shading and some red sheen.

I used a TWSBI Eco Transparent Green with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had a slightly wet flow.

Overall, this is a lovely green ink. I think I will reach for it more in the winter due to the dark cool tone, but it’s worth a try, especially at the current low price.

Diamine Ultra Green seems to be one of the less-popular Diamine green inks, but I still wanted to give it a try. I purchased my bottle of ink from Cult Pens, but you can find this ink at most retailers including Pen Chalet (aff. link).

The color:

Ultra Green is a bright summery green.

Monteverde Midnight Black is from Monteverde’s Core collection. I purchased my bottle of ink from Pen Chalet (aff. link).

The color:

Midnight Black is a classic medium black.

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has a little bit of shading and a tiny bit of bronze sheen.

Overall, I really like this ink, especially in the Kaweco medium nib. I ended up buying a full bottle just because I like it so much.

Monteverde Mandarin Orange is from Monteverde’s Core collection. I purchased my bottle of ink from Pen Chalet (aff. link).

Mandarin Orange is a dark red orange.

Overall, it’s much darker than I expected, and has a lot less shading than I was hoping for. It’s well behaved, but not one of my favorite oranges.

Robert Oster Green Black aka Grun-schwarz is a dark wintery green. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Pen Chalet (aff. link) and Vanness Pens.

The color:

Green Black is just that, in-between green and black.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks slightly blue with a little bit of black sheen.

Overall, it’s a well-behaved dark green. This ink would be great for an office appropriate green or for the dark winter months.

Ink Review #1245: Straits Pen Storm Warning

Straits Pen Storm Warning was exclusive to the Ohio Pen Club in 2019. Thanks to the reader that sent a sample in for review!

Storm Warning is a dark but unsaturated olive green.

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks more grey and has a little bit of brown sheen.

I used a Pilot Vanishing Point Tropical Turquoise with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I found this to be an interesting ink, mainly because the color is rather unusual. If you missed out on this ink, Lennon Tool Bar Wenshaan Pouchong Tea is the closest ink I know of.
