Ink Review #2579: Octopus Fluids Pink Rhino

Octopus Fluids Pink Rhino is from Write & Draw collection. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Pink Rhino is a medium bubblegum pink.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has just a little bit of shading.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: High

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and a tiny bit of bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Comparison Swabs:

Pink Rhino isn’t super close to any of these other pink inks. Click here to see the pink inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Pilot Decimo Pink White with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a slightly wet flow.

Overall, I really like this ink. I love the little bit of shading, high water resistance and slightly wet flow.

Radiant Rosewing is a light rosy pink.

I used a TWSBI Eco-T Coral with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a dry flow.

Overall, this ink is very dry. I kinda hated writing with it just because it was soooo dry.

Daddy Long Legs is a baby pink with gold shimmer.

Longer Writing:

I used a Diplomat Aero Antique Rose with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a dry flow.

Overall, this ink is too pale in the smaller nib sizes for me. It’s even too pale in the broad nib in cursive, but it’s a bit darker with printing.

Journalize Whimsical

Journalize is a new-to-me brand. Let’s take a look at four inks in the Whimsical collection. You can find these inks for sale at Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: Cosmic Glinda, Tinker bell, Evil Queen and Hecate.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 40-60 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All have low shading and shimmer. Glinda and Evil Queen have red shimmer. Tinkerbell has gold shimmer. Hecate has rose gold shimmer.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Glinda is more orangey than Colorverse a Scorpii.

Tinker bell is closest to Van Dieman’s Seashell.

Hecate and Evil Queen are closest to each other than these other purple shimmer inks.

Longer Writing:

The first two inks had dry flows, the second two had average flows. I used a Taroko Enigma notebook.

Overall, I had fun testing these inks out. Glinda and Tinker bell are too pale and dry for me. Evil Queen and Hecate are pretty similar to each other, you probably don’t need both.

Diamine Inkvent 2023 Days 6-10

It’s that time of year! It’s time for the 2023 Diamine Inkvent Calendar. Let’s take a look at days 6-10. You can find the calendar for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

Left to right: Bucks Fizz, Sweet Dreams, Jacaranda, Moon Beam and Velvet Emerald.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 20-40 seconds

Water Resistance: Low

Feathering: None (Sweet Dreams had medium feathering on some papers)

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None (Sweet Dreams had some bleeding on some papers)

Other properties: Bucks Fizz has low shading and gold shimmer. Jacaranda has low shading. Moon Beam haas low shading and blue shimmer. Velvet Emerald has medium shading and low pink sheen.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Bucks Fizz is pretty close to Diamine Citrus Ice.

Sweet Dreams is close to Kyo-no-oto Imayou-iro.

Jacaranda is cooler toned than Pilot Iroshizuku Jurojin.

Moon Beam is similar to Vinta Nakar.

Velvet Emerald is closes to Van Dieman’s Duck Nape.

Longer Writing:

All of the inks had average flows. I used a Taroko Enigma notebook.

Overall, Velvet Emerald is my favorite out of the five. Sweet Dreams had too much bleeding and feathering for me, but the others are well behaved.

Dry Time: 40 seconds

Water Resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: The first four have low shading, Nightfall has no shading. Fortunes Gold has green shimmer. Masquerade has gold shimmer. Nightfall has medium red sheen and blue shimmer.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Fortunes Gold is brighter and lighter than Van Dieman’s Blonde Bombshell.

Cashmere Rose is lighter than Pennonia Royal Crimson.

Early Dusk is less saturated than Diamine Kensington Blue.

Masquerade is darker thana Vinta Isabela.

Nightfall is darker than Diamine Solar Storm.

Longer Writing:

All of the inks had average flows. I used a Taroko Enigma notebook.

Overall, these are interesting inks! Nightfall is my favorite out of the five-it’s a great dark color and flows well.
