The color:

Quasar is a dark blue with a hint of purple in it.

In large swabs there is some reddish-coppery sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: Low-there was some feathering on Leuchtturm paper.

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: Medium

Other properties: no shadinghigh sheen, and no shimmer. There was sheen in every nib size on Tomoe River, and in broad and flex nibs on Rhodia and Leuchtturm.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was feathering and bleeding in every nib size so it's not an ink I would recommend for cheap paper.

Comparison Swabs:

Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Monteverde Sapphire, Colorverse 13 Quasar, and Diamine Tudor Blue. Click here to see the Colorverse inks together.

Akkerman #5 Shocking Blue, Diamine Oxford Blue, and Monteverde Ocean Noir. Click here to see the blue inks together. Ocean Noir seems the closest to Quasar, Quasar just has a little bit more purple in it than Ocean Noir does.

Longer Writing:

I used a fine Lamy 200 Black Amber on Midori MD paper. The ink had a slightly wet flow.

Overall, I like this ink, but it is pretty similar to Monteverde Ocean Noir (which is better behaved, and much cheaper).
