Ink Review #314: Colorverse #6 Space Laika
/It's reader request week. Let's start off with Colorverse #6 Space Laika from Season 1 Spaceward. Thanks to Pen Chalet for sending over samples for review.
The color:
Space Laika is a nice cool chocolate brown.
Swabs:
In large swabs the ink gets very dark. In ink drops you can see a little bit of the chocolate brown sheen.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 50 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering: None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: medium shading, low sheen, and no shimmer. The sheen is only visible in the flex nib and large swabs.
On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was some feathering and bleeding in every nib size.
Comparison Swabs:
Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Diamine Espresso, Colorverse Space Laika, and Montegrappa Coffee Brown. Click here to see the Colorverse inks together. Diamine Espresso is the closest I could find to Space Laika.
Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quartz, Noodler's Walnut, and Robert Oster Golden Brown. Click here to see the brown inks together.
Longer writing:
I started out with a medium Pelikan M800 Renaissance Brown, but the flow seemed off, so I switched to a broad Pilot Vanishing Point Copper on Tomoe River paper. In both pens the flow seemed a bit dry and there was quite a bit of skipping. You can see more shading from the Vanishing Point than from the Pelikan.
Overall, I'm just not crazy about this ink. The color is good and there is some nice shading, but I don't love the flow of the ink.
