Ink Review #379: Diamine 1864 Blue Black
/It's blue black week! Blue black is a great neutral color for everyday writing, and I have really enjoyed testing a bunch of them out. Let's take a look at Diamine 1864 Blue Black, from the 150th Anniversary collection. I purchased my bottle of ink from Cult Pens.
Swabs:
In large swabs there is a little bit of coppery sheen.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 30 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering: Low-there is some feathering on Rhodia and Leuchtturm, mainly in the flex nib.
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: Medium
Other properties: no shading, tiny bit of sheen, and no shimmer. I only saw the sheen in large swabs on Tomoe River paper.
On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was feathering and bleeding in every nib size.
Comparison Swabs:
Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Robert Oster Thunderstorm, Diamine 1864 Blue Black, and Bungubox 4B. Click here to see the Diamine inks together.
KWZ Warsaw Dreaming, Robert Oster Blue Black, and Diamine Blue/Black. Click here to see the blue black inks together. 1864 is not as purple as RO Blue Black, but has more purple than the other blue blacks.
Longer Writing:
Overall, I like the flow of this ink, but there is a bit more feathering and bleeding than I like. I do really like this ink on 68gsm Tomoe River, which is the paper I use the most for personal use, but it does have some issues on other papers.
