Ink Review #172: Diamine Earl Grey
/This year the group r/fountainpens on Reddit teamed up with Diamine to create Diamine Earl Grey. It was a group effort, the ink was chosen through voting. I purchased my samples of ink from Goulet Pens.
The color:
Earl Grey is a medium grey with shading. It has a blue/purple undertone.
In ink drops there is just the barest touch of silver sheen. It only shows up in the ink drops, not even in the large swab.
Dry time: 33 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering; None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: Low-there was just a little of bleeding in the flex nib on Tomoe River paper.
Other properties: Medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.
On 20 pound copy paper there was a little bit of feathering but other than that the ink did great.
Ink swabs for companion, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Organics Studio Arsenic Gray, Diamine Earl Grey, and Robert Oster Graphite. Click here to see the Diamine inks together, and click here to see the grey inks together.
Longer writing:
I used a fine Lamy 2000 on Tomoe River paper. The ink had an average to slightly wet flow.
Overall, it's a great grey, and pretty well behaved. I haven't reviewed that many grey inks so far, but I really like this one.
