The First 900 Inks

900-inks-13.jpg

Happy Fountain Pen Day! It’s a great day to play with inks! As of this morning we hit 900 inks reviewed, so it’s time for another current favorite inks post! Since it’s November and we are now strongly into fall I find myself reaching for darker, less vibrant colors. I prefer juicy broad nibs, wet flex nibs and smooth wet inks to go with them. One question I get often is what are my favorite ink brands. It’s hard to narrow it down, but my favorite six are: Pilot Iroshizuku, Monteverde, Sailor (this includes other brands made by Sailor-Bungubox, Kobe, etc) Diamine, Robert Oster and KWZ.

You can find the other favorites posts here:

The rules: the inks have to have been in the first 900 ink reviews. They have to be my current favorites in that color, meaning the ones I use the most often. My favorites change often, so these are the ones I have used the most in the last month.

Black

Whenever I need a good basic black I reach for one of these four, but I reach for Sailor Jentle Black the most often.

Blue Black

Blue Black is one of my favorite ink colors, but right now Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-kai is the one I’ve been using the most.

Grey

Give me all the grey inks! I love grey inks-Sailor Ink Studio 123 almost magical with its green and purple undertones.

Brown

Brown inks always remind me of Thanksgiving. Later this month we will have brown ink week and review 7 different browns.

Red

Red inks are the hardest for me-I’m always searching for my perfect red. Right now my 2 favorites are Robert Oster Red Candy and Sailor Jentle Irori.

Pink

Monteverde Garnet and Pilot Iroshizuku Tsutsuji will always be two of my all-time favorite pinks!

Orange

KWZ Butterscotch was the Meet Me in St. Louis ink for this year-exclusive to the St. Louis Pen Show. I fell hard for this ink when I reviewed it, and I’ve basically had it inked in at least one pen since then.

Yellow

Yellow inks are a mixed bag-I love the color but so many of them just don’t work out for me. They are either too pale or too dry. I love all 4 of these.

Green

I used to hate olive greens but I seem to be a bit obsessed this year. I want all the olive greens for fall.

Teal

I’m clearly stuck on a specific color of teal since all 4 of my current favorites are rather similar. Yama-dori and Iced Cookie are wetter than the other two, but you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Blue

For fall I’ve been sticking to the darker, more subdued blues.

Purple

I love Yama-budo and it’s a long time favorite, but I found Monteverde Blueberry Muffin recently, and it’s already a favorite.

What inks are you loving right now?
