Ink Review #763: Lamy Ruby
/Today’s ink is Lamy Ruby from the Crystal collection. It’s a rather unsaturated red, not a color I’m drawn to. Pen Chalet has some in stock.
Swabs:
In large swabs you can see some shading, no sheen.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 15 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering: None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.
On Staples 24 lb copy paper the ink performed well in extra fine and fine nibs, but began feathering in medium and larger nibs.
Comparison Swabs:
Ruby feels like a brighter version of Platinum Classic Cassis Black. Click here to see the Lamy inks together, and click here to see the red inks together.
Longer Writing:
I used a TWSBI Eco Blossom Red with a medium nib on Tomoe River paper. The ink had a medium flow.
Overall, I’m just not crazy about the color. I don’t love unsaturated reds, so it’s not an ink I need a full bottle of. It’s well behaved, just not the color for me.
