Noodler's Purples

I’ve been using a lot of purple inks in may, so let’s take a look at five purple inks from Noodler’s. You can find these inks for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: Purple Wampum, Violet, Purple Martin, Purple and La Couleur Royale.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 40-90 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-medium

Feathering: Wampum had high feathering the rest had none.

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: low, Wampum had medium bleeding.

Other properties: Low shading

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Purple Wampum and Violet are similar. Purple Martin is brighter than PenBBS Wisteria. Purple is brighter than De Atramentis Purple Violet.

La Couleur Royale is brighter than Diamine Iris.

Longer Writing:

All had slightly wet flows.

Overall, Purple Wampum was the most problematic with high feathering and medium bleeding. The rest had too much bleeding for me as well. I’m just not a fan of any of them. There are better behaved purple inks out there than this.
