Pen Case Tour
/I hate Mondays. My husband and kids have colds so I decided to do something a bit different today. Let’s take a peek inside every pen case currently on my desk, and what I use those pens for.
At the beginning of each month I generally ink up all the pens I’ll use that month (except for the 5 pens I clean daily for ink reviews). On December first I inked all of these pens up, even though I won’t use a few of them until the end of the month. Each week I use 4-5 colored pens along with 2-3 neutral pens for my personal use, as well as other pens to test out inks for review.
Richshaw Deluxe Pen Roll by @PensiveCandy:
I picked this up at the San Francisco pen show. As soon as I picked it up off the table I immediately fell in love with the colors. Unfortunately this one isn’t available online anymore, but this same print is available in a 6 Pen Hand Roll. Here’s another Deluxe Pen Roll in another print I like by @ricardjorg. I’ve been using these pens for my personal use last week-the first week in December. I love how soft the fabric is-it’s very kind to my pens.
Here’s swabs for the inks have in each of these pens.
Nock Co. Brasstown in Purple and Black:
This case holds pens with inks I’m currently testing out. It holds six pens but I add a few more in there. I love that nothing seems to stain the fabric and that it’s very sturdy. One issue is that I always have to keep the zippers at the top of the case when I close it or I accidentally open it upside down and all the pens fall out.
Nock Co. Lookout in Red and Navy:
I love the colors and how sturdy this case is. I do struggle to keep the pens in it under three-I often have a few more pens that tag along on the outside, like the Pelikan that’s hanging on today. I use this case often when I want to throw a few pens in my purse or take just a few for a study session. These pens are inked up for use this week.

Franklin-Christoph Penvelope 6 in Suit Grey:
This is my favorite pen case! I’ve had this case for a few years now, and it just performs. Nothing seems to stain it, I can squeeze not only 6 pens in the slots, but two in the ends and another 8 in front if my pens are feeling friendly (they often are). So I make this case that’s designed for 6 pens, carry 16, and it does it well.
This case currently holds pens I’ll use later on this month for weeks 3 and 4 in December.
Week 3 inks.
Week 4 inks.
Franklin-Christoph Penvelope 13 in Boot Brown:
I loved the Penvelope 6 so much I went ahead and bought the Penvelope 13 in Boot Brown. As it turns out, I don’t love it as much as I thought I would. I do love the Boot Brown leather, but because it’s made of leather it’s very stiff and unyielding. It’s so stiff that I can’t squeeze in extra pens (which is why I love the Penvelop 6 so much) and the stiffness makes me feel like I’m going to scratch my pens as I put them in and out of the case. I’m actually considering selling this one and purchasing another Penvelope 6 instead.
This case currently holds pens I’m using to test out inks I’m in the middle of reviewing. If you’re paying attention, you’ll notice there are 7 Ferris Wheel Press inks that I’ll have reviews up for soon!
Franklin-Christoph FxCel Leather 2 Pen Case:
A local pen friend gave me this case not too long ago, but it’s quickly become a daily carry. It’s nice and small and only holds 2 pens, so I use it to hold my current neutral-inked pens. Because it’s so small it fits nicely in my purse and protects the pens well. I use these pens every day.
Peg and Awl Scholar Pouch in Tumbleweed:
I’ve had this pouch for almost two years, and it has held up beautifully. It holds so many pens/pencils, and looks nice while doing it too. I wish I had more than one of these.
Fountain pens I’ll use this month: 40 different ones, and then 5 more I clean out each day for ink reviews. How many pen cases are on your desk right now?
