Ink Review #866: PenBBS 95 Lin Huiyin
/I have one more PenBBS ink to test out this week, PenBBS #95 Lin Huiyin from Season 8. Lin Huiyin was a 20th-century Chinese architect and writer. Thanks to Vanness Pens for sending this ink over for review.
Swabs:
In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink shows off some dark brown sheen.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 15 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering: Low-there was just a little bit of feathering in the flex nib.
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: Low-there was just a little bit of bleeding in the flex nib.
Other properties: low shading, tiny sheen, and no shimmer. The sheen is only visible in large swabs on Tomoe River paper.
On Staples 24 lb copy paper the ink feathered in most nib sizes and had some bleeding in the flex nib.
Comparison Swabs:
Lin Huiyin is a bit darker than Sailor Ink Studio 750 but a bit lighter than Sailor Ink Studio 950. It’s warmer in tone than Monteverde Amethyst, but cooler than Robert Oster Velvet Crush. Click here to see the PenBBS inks together, and click here to see the purple inks together.
Longer Writing:
I used a Pelikan M600 Violet with a fine nib on Tomoe River paper. The ink had an average flow.
Overall, this ink is pretty well behaved. It’s a nice dark grape purple with just a little bit of shading and a tiny bit of sheen. It would be a great color to use in the fall and winter.
