Ink Review #483: Platinum Classic Cassis Black
/We are continuing with the Platinum Classic inks this week, and Cassis Black is up next. The ink is available in 60ml bottles. Thanks to Pen Chalet for sending a sample over for review!
Swabs:
In large swabs the ink turns very dark when concentrated, it looks like a velvety black.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 30 seconds
Water resistance: Low, since this ink is an iron gall I expected a lot more water resistance than I got.
Feathering: None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: high shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.
On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was just a little bit of feathering, but no bleeding.
Comparison Swabs:
Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Robert Oster Lipstick Red, Platinum Classic Cassis Black, and Papier Plume Red Beans and Rice. Click here to see the Platinum inks together. Cassis Black is darker than Lipstick Red, but not as dark as Red Beans and Rice.
Sailor Jentle Oku-yama, Diamine Flowers Burgundy Rose, and Colorverse 9 Sea Europa. Click here to see the red inks together.
Longer writing:
Overall, the ink has a dry flow and not much water resistance. The ink does have a definite color change. When wet, the ink is a bright reddish pink, when dry it’s a dark, unsaturated red. The unsaturated red inks have never really appealed to me, so it’s not an ink I need a full bottle of.
