Ink Review #213: Private Reserve Cosmic Cobalt
/Every once in a while a reader will send in an ink or two for review. Private Reserve Cosmic Cobalt was sent in by Heather, you can find her @havenhursthanks on Instagram. Thanks to Heather for sending it in. This ink comes in 66ml bottles, and is made in Zionsville, IN.
In larger swabs the ink looks more purple.
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 30 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering: None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: Medium shading, a tiny bit of copper sheen, and no shimmer. The sheen can only be seen in large swabs and ink drops on Tomoe River paper.
On 20 pound copy paper there was a little bit of feathering but other than that the ink behaved well.
Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): PenBBS 217 Iris Tectorum Maxim, Private Reserve Cosmic Cobalt, and PenBBS 44. All three of these inks fall in the blue-violet range, not quite blue but not quite purple.
Diamine Tudor Blue, Akkerman #5 Shocking Blue, and Pelikan Edelstein Sapphire. Click here to see the blue inks together.
It looks a little bit different when wet than when dry. The photo below was taken as soon as I finished writing the page, and the image above was taken after it had been drying for five hours. You can see that it turned a little bit more purple when completely dry.
Overall, I like the color. It behaves well and is at an affordable price. This is the first Private Reserve ink I've tried, and I'm looking forward to trying more from the brand. Give it a try, you might love it.
