Every time Robert Oster releases a new ink, which is pretty often, I get excited to give it a try. Today’s new Robert Oster ink is Carbon Fire. I purchased my bottle of ink from Pen Chalet.

The color:

Carbon Fire is a lovely dark blue.

In large swabs there is just a little bit of dark pink sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shadingmedium sheen, and no shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was just a little bit of feathering, and some bleeding in the flex nib.

Comparison Swabs:

Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Robert Oster School Blue, Robert Oster Carbon Fire, and Robert Oster Blue Sea. Carbon Fire seems to be a slightly darker version of School Blue. Click here to see the Robert Oster inks together.

I used a broad Pelikan M805 Vibrant Blue on an ivory Hippo Noto Notebook. The ink had a nice wet flow.

Overall, it’s another great blue ink from Robert Oster. My only issue is that it’s pretty close (1 shade darker) to Robert Oster School Blue, so I don’t think I need both.
