Ink Review #352: Robert Oster Great Southern Ocean
/It's new ink week, so let's talk about Robert Oster Great Southern Ocean. You can find it at Pen Chalet.
Swabs:
In large swabs there is a little bit of shading and some pretty reddish sheen.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 30 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering: None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: medium shading, low red sheen, and no shimmer.
On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding, so it's not an ink I would recommend for cheap paper.
Comparison Swabs:
Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Robert Oster Thunderstorm, Robert Oster Great Southern Ocean, and Robert Oster Blue Night. Thunderstorm is a blue black, but I still wanted to compare it. Click here to see the Robert Oster inks together.
Colorverse 2 Proxima B, Birmingham Fair Wheel Blue, and KWZ Baltic Memories. Click here to see the blue inks together. Great Southern Ocean falls somewhere in between Proxima B and Fair Wheel Blue.
Overall, Robert Oster creates amazing blues and this one is no exception. Well behaved, good color, good shading and even a little bit of sheen.
