Diamine Inkvent 2021, Part 1

SPOILER ALERT! If you don’t want your Diamine Inkvent 2021 spoiled, don’t keep scrolling!!!

We are going to look at the first five inks from the Diamine Inkvent 2021. I tried to wait a few days so most of you who have the calendar have already tried out your inks. These calendars are still available for sale-you can find it Vanness Pens and other retailers.

Swabs:

Left to right: Seize the NIght, Garland, Ash, Tempest aand Hamony.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry Time: 20-40 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties:

  • Seize the Night had low shading and low gold sheen.

  • Garland had medium shading, medium pink sheen and blue shimmer.

  • Ash had medium shading.

  • Tempest had low shading, medium red sheen and gold shimmer.

  • Harmony had medium shading.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was a bit of feathering in every nib size as well as bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

I don’t have a super close match for Seize the Night, Kobe Suma Purple is probably closest.

Garland’s base color is closest to Robert Oster Crystal Marine.

Ash is similar to Aurora Grey.

Tempest is the only true blue black shimmer I have, so I don’t have a dupe for it.

Harmony is closest to Monteverde Rose Noir.

Longer Writing:

I used a Taroko Odyssey notebook. All of the inks had an average flow except Ash which was a bit dry.

Overall, I enjoyed all of these inks, but out of the five I think Harmony is my favorite. Tempest is probably the most unique just because I don’t know of many other blue black shimmer inks. So far I’ve been impressed with this Inkvent-it has a good range of colors and properties.
