Ink Review #1887: Van Dieman's Pepperberry
/Van Dieman’s Autumn Pepperberry is from the Tassie Seasons collection. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.
*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.
Swabs:
In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks much darker.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
*For my writing samples I use:
Vintage Mabie Todd Swan (flex nib)
Taroko Enigma notebooks (68gsm TR)
Dry time: 20 seconds
Water resistance: Medium
Feathering: Low
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: Low
Other properties: low shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.
On 20 lb copy paper the ink was about average, some feathering but no bleeding.
Comparison Swabs:
Pepperberry is right in-between Bungubox 4B and Cross Blue Black. Click here to see the blue black inks together.
Longer writing:
I used a Franklin-Christoph 46 Blue Diamondcast with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.
Overall, this is a nice ink, but there is a bit of feathering and bleeding. It’s not so bad that it would keep me from using the ink, plus it has a little bit of shading.
