Ink Review #854: Diamine Prussian Blue

We are going to wrap up this week’s blue black inks with Diamine Prussian Blue, another ink that has been sitting neglected in my drawer for a long time. I purchased my bottle of ink from Cult Pens.

The color:

Prussian Blue is an unsaturated, medium blue black.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has some dark brownish sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, tiny sheen, and no shimmer. You can only see the sheen in huge swabs on Tomoe River paper.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper the ink feathered in all nib sizes and had a little bit of bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Prussian Blue is a bit lighter and less saturated than Lamy Blue Black and Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-kai. Click here to see the Diamine inks together, and click here to see the blue-black inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a TWSBI Eco Pastel Blue with a fine nib on Tomoe River paper. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, this ink is well behaved and it’s a very affordable, but I don’t love it. There are just a lot of other blue black inks out there that I enjoy more.
