We are going to take a look at one more Pilot Iroshizuku this week before we move onto something else, Pilot Iroshizuku Asa-gao, aka Morning Glory. I purchased my bottle of ink at Pen Chalet.

The color:

Asa-gao is a royal blue with a purple undertone, aka a medium “blurple”

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has just a little bit of reddish-copper sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 15 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: Low-there was just a little bit of feathering in the flex nib on Rhodia.

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, tiny sheen, and no shimmer. The sheen is only visible in large swabs on Tomoe River paper.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was some feathering in all nib sizes but just a tiny bit of bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Aasa-gao is a little bit more purple than Papier Plume Calle Real, and a bit cooler toned than Parker Penman Sapphire. Click here to see the Pilot Iroshizuku inks together, and click here to see the blue inks together.

Longer writing:

I used a Lamy Al-Star Pacific Blue with a medium nib on a Yoseka A5 notebook. The ink had a wet flow.

Overall, I’m glad I purchased a full bottle of this ink, because I really enjoy it. It’s well behaved, dries quickly, and is a gorgeous color.
