I’m always on the lookout for perfect red inks. So far my favorite true reds have been Sailor Jentle Irori and Robert Oster Clay Red. I decided to give Robert Oster Red Candy a try. I purchased my bottle of ink from Pen Chalet.

In large swabs the ink has just a little bit of brown sheen.

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, medium sheen, and no shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper the ink feathered in all nib sizes and had a little bit of bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Red Candy is just a little bit lighter than Robert Oster Clay Red. It’s also a little bit lighter than Montblanc William Shakespeare. Click here to see the Robert Oster inks together, and click here to see the red inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Sailor Pro Gear Slim Supernova Red with a broad nib on Tomoe River paper. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I love this red. It’s a gorgeous color and well behaved. It may be my perfect red.
