Ink Review #1747: Van Dieman's Spring Pink Fairy Orchid
/Let’s take a look at Van Dieman’s Spring Pink Fairy Orchid today. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.
*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.
Swabs:
In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has just a little bit of shading but no sheen.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
*For my writing samples I use:
Vintage Mabie Todd Swan (flex nib)
Taroko Enigma notebooks (68gsm TR)
Dry time: 30 seconds
Water resistance: Medium
Feathering: Low
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.
On 20 lb copy paper there is some feathering in the larger nib sizes but no bleeding.
Comparison Swabs:
Fairy Orchid is closest to Kobe 61 Yuki Gosho Cherry Blossom. Click here to see the pink inks together.
Longer writing:
I used a Sailor Pro Gear Sparkling Pink with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had a dry flow.
Overall, this is a fun color but the lighter shading can be too light to be easily read, especially in the smaller nib sizes.
