Ink Review #1969: Inkebara Crimson

Inkebara Crimson is from the Standard collection. This ink is available in 60ml bottles. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Crimson is a pastel red, almost a dark pink.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks more pink.

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering but no bleeding.

Longer writing:

I used a TWSBI Eco Pink with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I enjoyed this ink. It’s well behaved and a nice ink overall.

Ink Review #1968: Inkebara Sand

Inkebara Sand is from the Dual Shaders collection. This ink is available in 60ml bottles. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Sand is a yellow-brown with a green undertone.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks more brown than it does on the Col-o-ring swab.

I used a Pelikan M200 Gold Marbled with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, this ink is an unusual brown color, almost yellow but not quite. The color is rather pale, so I would stick to medium and broad nibs to keep it legible.

Overall, this ink is well-behaved but it is rather light. I would stick to medium and broad nibs to keep it legible.

Kansas City is a medium sepia brown.

New York is an unsaturated medium red.

Diamine Inkvent 2021 21-25

Today let’s tackle the last 5 inks from the Diamine 2021 Inkvent Calendar. I know I’m ridiculously late with this post, but I wanted to get it taken care of before it’s time to start 2022’s Calendar. You can find these inks in individual bottles at Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: Brandy Snap, Black Ivy, Wonderland, Yuletide and All the Best

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 20-40 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All 5 inks had medium shading, Black Ivy had medium red sheen and All the Best had medium green sheen and purple shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was lots of feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Brandy Snap is similar to Diamine Honey Burst.

Black Ivy is close to Colorverse Bluish Green.

Wonderland is close to Pennonia Wasp

Yuletide is close to Birmingham Pennsylvania Slate

All the Best is close to Diamine Wine Divine

All the inks had an average flow except Wonderland which had a dry flow.

Overall, I think Brandy Snap is my favorite out of the five, but all are well behaved.

Autumnal Equinox is a medium walnut brown.

Overall, this ink is a meh for me-it dries quickly but also feathers a bit. I’m not wowed by it.

The color:

Hickory Aflame is a medium red brown with copper shimmer.

Let’s take a look at 4 inks from PenBBS Season 13: 183 Platycodon Grandiflorus, 184 Cane Yellow, 233 Nanjing and 235 Mandarin Duck Female. I got these inks from Vanness Pens, but they no longer sell them so I’m not sure where you can pick some up.

Swabs:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All 4 inks had medium shading and Mandarin Female had green shimmer.

Comparison Swabs:

183 is similar to Montblanc Tolstoy.

Cane Yellow is close to Ferris Wheel Press Buttered Popcorn.

Nanjing is close to Monteverde Turtle.

Mandarin Female is close to Diamine Brandy Dazzle.

All the inks had an average flow except Mandarin Female which had a dry flow.

Overall, I think 183 is my favorite out of the four, but none of them are must-haves for me.

Pushinka is a deep walnut brown.

Overall, I enjoyed this color, but this ink does feather a bit on cheaper papers so I would stick to the nicer stuff.
