Ink Review #336: Ancient Song Moon Over a Mountain Pass
/Today we are testing out Ancient Song Moon Over a Mountain Pass. I purchased my bottle of ink from Straits Pen. They don't have any available online right now, but I think they will have some Ancient Song inks available at their table at the San Francisco Pen Show in August. Moon Over a Mountain Pass is a really long name so for this review I'm simply going to call it MOAMP.
Swabs:
In large swabs there is some bright gold shimmer and a little bright green sheen.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 30 seconds
Water resistance: Low
Feathering: None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: medium shading, tiny sheen, and lots of gold shimmer. The sheen is only visible a tiny bit in the flex nib on Tomoe River paper and large swabs.
On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was some feathering and bleeding.
Comparison Swabs:
Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Diamine Magenta Flash, Ancient Song Moon Over a Mountain Pass, and Diamine Frosted Orchid. Click here to see the Ancient Song inks together. MOAMP is darker, more purple and more vibrant than Magenta Flash.
Platinum Lavender Black, Colorverse Einstein Ring, and Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-budo. Click here to see the purple inks together.
Overall, I love the color of this ink. It's vibrant and happy, but the shimmer is a little less consistent than other Ancient Song shimmer inks I've tried so far.
