Ink Review #395: Diamine Flowers Marigold

Summer is almost over, so before it leaves entirely I decided to tackle the Diamine Flowers Set. Usually this set is only available in 10-bottle sets, but I found that Cult Pens sells the bottles individually. Let's start out with Diamine Marigold.

The color:

Marigold is a bright yellow-orange.

Swabs:

In large swabs the ink looks more orange.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Both in the images above and below you can see the random blobs of ink. Multiple nib sizes showed the blobs, from extra-fine to flex.

Bleeding: None

Other properties: no shadingno sheen, and no shimmer

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was feathering and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Robert Oster Peach, Diamine Marigold, and Papier Plume Sazerac. Peach is a bit lighter, and Sazarac isn't as bright. Click here to see the Diamine inks together, and here to see the orange inks together.

Longer writing:

I used a broad Kaweco Sport Sunrise pen on Tomoe River paper. The ink had an average flow. After a while of writing the nib would spit out a huge blob of ink and then go back to writing fine.

Overall, it's a nice color but I don't like the random blobs of ink. Robert Oster Peach and Papier Plume Sazerac are both good alternate options.
