Ink Review #923 Redux: Diamine Solstice

I’ve had a moment of mental insanity and decided to pull a Christmas in July of sorts. The 2019 Diamine Inkvent calendar was released last year, and at the time I didn’t think any of the colors would be released individually so I reviewed the advent as a whole rather than individual inks. Diamine recently released all of them individually under the new name of “The Blue Collection” (sometimes also called “The Blue Edition”) so I’ve decided to go back and review each of the inks on their own now, starting with Diamine Solstice. You can find this ink for sale at Pen Chalet (aff. link) or Vanness Pens.

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper you can see some of the sheen and a bit of the shimmer.

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 70 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: Low

Other properties: no shading, high black sheen, and green shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was some feathering in most nib sizes as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Solstice’s base color is closest to Noodler’s Black Bat. I don’t have any other black inks with green shimmer. Click here to see the Diamine inks together, and click here to see the black inks together.

I used a Pilot Vanishing Point Crossed Lines with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had a wet flow.

Overall, I really enjoyed this ink. It’s a lovely dark black with plenty of sheen and it’s really interesting with the green shimmer. As a Harry Potter fan, this ink appeals to me as a Slytherin ink.
