Ink Review #1867: Dominant Industry Winter Night

Dominant Industry Winter Night is from Dominant Industry’s Pearl collection. Thanks to Yoseka Stationery for sending this ink over for review!

The color:

Winter Night is a deep blue black with purple shimmer.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has quite a bit of purple shimmer.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, a tiny bit of brown sheen, and purple shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper there is a little bit of feathering and bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Comparison Swabs:

Winter Night is lighter than Diamine Tempest but darker than Diamine Storm. Click here to see the blue black inks together.

Longer writing:

I used a Franklin-Christoph 46 Blue Diamondcast with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow. The ink clogged the nib 3 times while writing this one page.

Overall, it’s a nice color but I had a lot of clogging issues so it’s not an ink I would reach for often.
