Ink Review #1890: Kakimori Toppuri
/Kakimori 06 Toppuri is from Kakimori’s Pigmented collection. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.
*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.
Swabs:
In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink is almost black where it pooled.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
*For my writing samples I use:
Vintage Mabie Todd Swan (flex nib)
Taroko Enigma notebooks (68gsm TR)
Dry time: 70 seconds
Water resistance: High
Feathering: None
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: None
Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.
On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and bleeding in all nib sizes.
Comparison Swabs:
Toppuri is closest to Sailor Souboku. Click here to see the blue black inks together.
Longer writing:
I used a Franklin-Christop 46 Blue Diamondcast with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.
Overall, I like that it’s water resistant, but I don’t like the long dry time. This ink falls into a “sometimes” category. I can’t see myself reaching for it often, but there’s nothing outright wrong with it.
