nk-bordeaux-2.jpg

Today’s Nagasawa Kobe ink is #6 Bordeaux. I’m in love with this color, perfect for fall. Thanks to Pen Chalet for sending a sample over for review. (Right now Kobe inks are 25% off at Pen Chalet).

The color:

Bordeaux is, well, a bordeaux red. It has a bit more purple than a maroon, but isn’t quite purple.

Swabs:

Ink large swabs the ink looks more purple than it does in writing. There is a tiny bit of green sheen when concentrated.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, tiny sheen, and no shimmer. You can only see the sheen in large swabs on Tomoe River paper.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was feathering in every nib size, and some bleeding in the flex and broad nibs.

Birmingham Carmine is the closest to Bordeaux, but not an exact match. It’s a little bit darker than Bordeaux is. Click here to see the Kobe inks together.

Longer writing:

I used a medium Pilot Vanishing Point Galaxy on Tomoe River 68gsm. The ink had a wet flow.

Overall, I love the color of this ink, it’s well behaved, and has a nice wet flow.
