PenBBS 346 Misty Mountain is from PenBBS Season 23. I love grey inks, so I was excited to give this one a try. Thanks to Vanness Pens for sending this ink over for review.

The color:

Misty Mountain is a medium grey with a strong purple undertone. It’s almost more of a dusky purple on the Col-o-ring paper than a purplish grey.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks more grey, less purple.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper the ink feathered in most nib sizes and had some bleeding in the flex nib.

Comparison Swabs:

Misty Mountain is a bit lighter than Diamine Earl Grey, but has a similar purple tone. Click here to see the PenBBS inks together, and click here to see the grey inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Kaweco Al-Sport Anthracite with a medium nib on Tomoe River paper. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I like the color best when using white Tomoe River paper, on the cream papers the ink looks a bit too purple for me. The ink is well behaved and an interesting color, I enjoyed it.
