Ink Review #2909: Pennonia Fenyves Boreal

Today’s ink is Pennonia Fenyves Boreal Forest from the standard collection. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Fenyes is a darker than a medium green but not quite a dark green. It’s a little more blue than an olive green and looks darker on this Col-o-ring paper than it does on other papers.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has some shading.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm, as well as on cheap copy paper.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had feathering in all nib sizes and just a few dots of bleeding.

Longer Writing:

I used a TWSBI Eco Transparent Green with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a slightly dry flow-I had a lot of issues with the ink burping (which seems super weird to have a dry ink that burps).

Overall, I’m not in love with this ink. It’s not quite an olive green-I wish the color leaned just a bit more yellow. The slightly dry flow and burping gave me a few problems while writing, so I didn’t love using it, especially in longer writing sessions.
