Robert Oster Crystal Marine was sent in by a reader, and as soon as I swatched it, it reminded me of Robert Oster Marine (which I love), and I’m pretty sure Crystal Marine is Marine with blue shimmer added.

The color:

Crystal Marine is a dark teal with blue shimmer.

Swabs:

In large swabs you can see the dark blue shimmer and some of the dark pink sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 20 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, medium sheen, and blue shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was a bit of bleeding and feathering in the flex nib and a bit in the other nib sizes as well.

Comparison Swabs:

Robert Oster Marine is Crystal Marine without the shimmer, the closest shimmer ink is Ancient Song Offering Incense. Click here to see the Robert Oster inks together, and click here to see the teal inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Pelikan M805 Ocean Swirl with a broad nib on Tomoe River paper. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I love the color, and it’s nice to see some blue shimmer instead of the standard silver/gold. The only other ink I have with blue shimmer is Robert Oster Black and Blue.
