Sailor Ink Studio Overview

Sailor recently released 100 Ink Studio inks and I was so excited until I realized these inks are mainly sold in Japan. Ink Studio holds live events, during which their inkmeisters (which sounds like the best job ever) blend custom inks. They have created over 20,000 blends, and this set of Ink Studio inks only includes 100 of those colors. These inks come in the new 20ml Sailor bottles and can be hard to get in the United States. A reader sent me three to try out and immediately I fell in love with two of them. I really wanted to try them all so I got a full set of 100 samples from Sakura Fountain Pen Gallery. The inks got here quickly and I immediately swabbed them up on this chart (I used Bank paper, a rubber stamp and Ranger Archival ink). The inks range from pale grey to bright reds and every color in-between.

There are a few inks I was impressed with right away, some with some amazing shading and some with some pretty sheen. I was a bit overwhelmed by the idea of reviewing 100 different inks, so I decided to break them down into sets of 5 based on color. This week we will tackle 5 inks at a time until we make it through all 100. If you have used any of these inks, which one is your favorite? Stay tuned for the rest of the week to see each of these inks in action.
