Ink Review #2612: Robert Oster Admiral Blue

Today’s ink is Robert Oster Admiral Blue-it’s a Galen Leather exclusive. Thanks to Galen Leather for sending this ink over for review!

The color:

Admiral Blue is a bright medium blue.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has some pretty pink sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 20 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, medium pink sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had feathering in all nib sizes and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Longer Writing:

I used a Leonardo Momento Magico Emerald, with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has an average flow.

Overall, I really like this ink. It’s pretty and well behaved, but that’s what I’ve come to expect with Robert Oster blue inks.

Ink Review #2598: KWZ Sapphire Blue

KWZ recently started making shimmer inks. KWZ Sapphire Blue is the first one I’ve tried-it’s a Galen Leather exclusive. Thanks to Galen Leather for sending this ink over for review!

The color:

Sapphire Blue is a medium blue with silver shimmer.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the shimmer is very subtle, way less in your face than other shimmer inks.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: High

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and silver shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink performed really well, no feathering or bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Sapphire Blue is closest to J Herbin Kyanite du Nepal. Click here to see the blue inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Pilot VP Azure with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has an average flow and very consistent shimmer without having to agitate the pen often.

Overall, I love this ink. I love that the shimmer is so consistent and that it’s more subtle than other shimmer inks. It has some nice shading, is water resistant and performs well on copy paper. This ink is absolutely worth a try, and I can’t wait to try out the other KWZ shimmer inks!

Kawco Sport Carmine Fude Nib

The Kaweco Sport Carmine is a Galen Leather Exclusive. The cap has Galen Leather printed on one side and Kaweco Sport on the other. Thanks to Galen Leather for sending this pen over for review!

This pen is 4.13 inches when closed, and 5.2 inches when posted. I prefer to use Kaweco Sports posted because the length is more comfortable for my hand.

The finial has the Kaweco logo in gold.

This pen is available in 16 different nib sizes, I have the fine fude nib.

With a fude the nib is bent upwards, creating a large surface to write with.

I prefer to use this nib with cursive writing, although it works fine with printing or reverse writing. The side stroke is wider than the down stroke.

This nib writes more like a marker than a fountain pen, which is really fun. The lower your writing angle is the wider the nib gets.

You can add a single or double zippered pen case to your pen purchase. I have the Double Zip in Carmine Red.

It’s the perfect size to hold two Kaweco pens comfortably. I love how well the case matches the pen.

Overall, I love Kaweco Sports-I have over 20 of them-I like them just that much. This one is a great color and I love the transparency. The fude nib is fun to write with and something different than the usual nibs available. I love the pen case that goes with it-I’ll use it often. I would absolutely recommend this pen and case, especially if you are looking for a fun nib!

Ink Review #2582: Robert Oster Rust Orange

The color:

Rust Orange is a deep red-orange.

Writing samples:

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Comparison Swabs:

Rust Orange is lighter than Robert Oster Orange Zest but darker than Robert Oster Fire on Fire. Click here to see the orange inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used an Edison Collier Persimmon Swirl with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a slightly dry flow.

Overall, I love the color. Robert Oster does a great job with his inks and this one is no exception.

Galen Leather Magnum Opus

Today let’s take a look at the Galen Leather Magnum Opus 6 Slots Hard Pen Case. Thanks to Galen Leather for sending this case over for review!

When closed the case measures 5.70" x 6.50" x 1.4" inches. The outside of the case is a stiff grey leather.

The back of the case is embossed with the Galen Leather logo.

The case holds even my largest pens easily.

I love the stitching detail.

The inner case comes out which allows you easier access to your pens.

Overall, I really like this pen case. It’s nice and sturdy and protects the pens well. I think I need another one in a different color!

Galen Leather A5 Folio

I have been using the Galen Leather A5 Folio for months now, so it’s time for a review! This is the Crazy Horse Smoky version. Thanks to Galen Leather for sending this Folio over for review!

The front is solid grey with lots of texture from use. It measures 7.3 x 9.2 inches with a zipper around three sides.

The back is solid grey with the Galen Leather logo embossed at the bottom. The back has just as much texture as the front does from heavy use.

The left has lots of pockets and pen loops while the right has a flap to hold a notebook. The center has a ring.

The left side:

There are two built-in pen loops, 4 removable pen loops and lots of pockets.

Pen Loops:

The pen loops hold fountain pens well, the Vanishing Point fits perfectly.

The right side:

The folio holds my Hobonichi Cousin, with a little bit of room for the tabs to fit as well.

My fountain pens have scratched up the leather quite a bit, but I don’t mind that. I enjoy the texture it gives to the leather.

Overall, I love using this folio. It holds my Hobonichi Cousin and has held up to daily use well. I’m probably going to need one in every color.
