Ink Review #2514: Kobe 84 Yamamoto-dori

Nagasawa Kobe Yamamoto-dori Exotic Green is from the Standard collection. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Yamamoto-dori is a deep hunter green with black sheen.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has some sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, low black sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Longer Writing:

I used a Pilot Ishime Forest Green with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has an average flow.

Overall, this is a lovely deep green with some shading and sheen.

Ink Review #2504: Kobe 80 Rokko Alpine Kurinso

Kobe 80 Rokko Alpine Kurinso is from the Kobe Standard collection. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

The color:

Rokko Alpine Kurinso is a medium hot pink.

Overall, I really like this ink. It’s a pretty color, well behaved, and has a nice smooth flow.

Kobe Safari Inks

This year Lamy released three pastel Safaris, so Kobe came out with three inks to match the pens. You can find these inks for sale at Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: Light Rose, Spring Green and Aqua Sky.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 20 seconds

Water Resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All have low shading.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Light Rose is closest to Monteverde Rose Pink.

Spring Green is a little bit paler than these other green inks.

Aqua Sky is closest to Sailor Yuki-akari.

Longer Writing:

All of the inks had average flows. I used a Taroko Enigma notebook.

Overall, Light Rose is a little too pale for me in writing, but I like the other two. All three flow well and are well behaved.

Octopus Fluids Write Draw Petrol

Octopus Fluids recently came out with a line of pigmented inks called Write & Draw. Let’s take a look at five of them. You can find these inks for sale at Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: Blue Koi, Petrol Buffalo, Petrol Axolotl, Petrol Deer and Violet Bee.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 30-70 seconds

Water Resistance: High

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading.

Comparison Swabs:

Blue Koi is close to Octopus Fluids Ultramarinblau.

Petrol Buffalo is similar to Sailor Ink Studio 641.

Petrol Axolotl is close to Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-ro.

Petrol Deer is a little darker than Octopus Fluids Crystal Blue.

Violet Bee is similar to PenBBS First Love.

Longer Writing:

All five had slightly wet flows.

Overall, I enjoyed these inks. The slightly wet flow is lovely, and I love the high water resistance. Out of the five Petrol Axolotl is my favorite.

Kobe Purples

Let’s take a look at four Kobe inks. You can find these inks for sale at Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: 56 Shichidanka, 62 Nunobiki, 32 Tamon and 53 Pearl Silver.

Dry Time: 30-40 seconds

Water Resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Other properties: low-medium shading.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Nunobiki is brighter than Pilot Iroshizuku Jurojin. Shichidanka is a bit more red than Robert Oster Go Go.

Tamon is similar to Robert Oster Purple Rock.

Pearl Silver is lighter than these other grey inks.

Longer Writing:

All four had average flows.

Overall, I love all four of these. They flow well and are well behaved. 56 Shichidanka and 62 Nunobiki are my favorites, the colors are gorgeous.

Kobe Greens

Today let’s take a look at three Kobe green inks from the standard collection. You can find these inks for sale at Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: 76 Futatabiisan Park Tree, 34 Sorakuen Tea Green and 43 School Urban Fresh Green.

Writing samples:

Dry Time: 40 seconds

Water Resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All three had medium shading.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was lots of feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

76 Futatabiisan Park Tree is a bit darker than Bungubox Kaoru.

34 Sorakuen Tea Green is a bit lighter than Robert Oster Moss.

43 School Urban Fresh Green is just a touch more yellow than Octopus Fluids Lindgrun.

All three inks had an average flow.

Overall, 76 Futatabiisan Park Tree is my favorite simply because I like the color most out of the three, but all three are lovely and well behaved.

Our next red ink this week is Kobe Myodani Cosmos Red. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

Cosmos Red is a medium plum red.

Our final Kobe ink for this week is Kobe Kitano Antique Sepia. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

Sepia is a deep walnut brown.

Ink Review #1948: Kobe Bauhaus Orange

We are continuing on with another Kobe ink this week with Kobe Bauhaus Orange. This ink was made for the Bauhaus 100th anniversary. My ink sample came from Vanness Pens but it is currently out of stock.

The color:

Bauhaus Orange is a bright red-orange.

I used a Kaweco Sport Orange with a double broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had a wet flow.

Overall, this is a lovely wet orange ink but if you can’t get your hands on it try Kobe East Park Torch Orange instead.
