PenBBS Season 29 Part 3

Let’s take a look at four inks from PenBBS Season 29. I purchased my inks from Vanness Pens, but they are no longer carrying the brand so I’m unsure of where you can purchase them.

Swabs:

Left to right: 414 Avocado, 415 Huangshan, 416 Tea Green and 417 Wolfgang.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 20-40 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-High (Tea Green had high water resistance)

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All four had medium shading, Tea Green had low red sheen.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and few dots of bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Avocado is similar to Kobe Maiko Green.

Huangshan is close to Bookbinder Ground Rattler.

Tea Green is a little lighter than Vinta Dream a Dream.

Wolfgang is lighter than Monteverde Copper Noir.

Longer Writing:

Avocado and Wolfgang had an average flow. Huangshan was dry and Tea Green was wet.

Overall, Avocado and Wolfgang were rather average for me, nothing too special about them. Huangshan was too light and dry, basically unusable. Tea Green had a nice wet flow and high water resistance, so that one was my favorite out of the four.

PenBBS Season 29 Part 2

Let’s take a look at four inks from PenBBS Season 29. I purchased my inks from Vanness Pens, but they are no longer carrying the brand so I’m unsure of where you can purchase them.

Swabs:

Left to right: 410 Year of the Rat, 411 Purple Sky, 412 Nanning and 413 Miguel de Cervantes.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 10-40 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All four had low shading and Year of the Rat had silver shimmer.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and few dots of bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Year of the Rat is a little warmer than these other grey shimmer inks.

Purple Sky is a little darker than Sailor Jentle Ultra Marine.

Nanning is a little lighter than Diamine Mistletoe.

Miguel de Cervantes is a little darker than Van Dieman’s Tassie Salmon.

Longer Writing:

Year of the Rat and Miguel de Cervantes had dry flows. Purple Sky and Nanning had average flows. I had some clogging and flow issues with Year of the Rat-I had to keep priming the converter to get through the clogs.

Overall, Purple Sky is my favorite out of the four, it flows well and has a nice color. Year of the Rat is my least favorite-it had too many clogging issues for me.

PenBBS Season 29 Part 1

Let’s take a look at 4 inks from PenBBS Season 29. My samples came from Vanness Pens but they are no longer carrying the brand so I’m unsure where you can purchase them.

Swabs:

Left to right: Moon and Stars, Carpodacus Roseus, Xiamen and Spring Lake.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 20-60 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: Moon and Stars had monster black sheen and blue shimmer. The rest had low shading.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was lots of feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Moon and Stars is similar to Diamine Midnight Hour in writing,

Carpodacus Roseus is a little lighter than Tono & Lims Tokyo.

Xiamen is similar to PenBBS Morning.

Spring Lake is lighter than Pennonia Ice Mint.

Moon and Stars had a sticky flow and the rest had a dry flow.

Overall, I’m not a fan of any of these. Moon and Stars had some smearing after drying and had a sticky flow. The rest are too dry and pale for me to use confortably.
