Journalize Whimsical

Journalize is a new-to-me brand. Let’s take a look at four inks in the Whimsical collection. You can find these inks for sale at Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: Cosmic Glinda, Tinker bell, Evil Queen and Hecate.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 40-60 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All have low shading and shimmer. Glinda and Evil Queen have red shimmer. Tinkerbell has gold shimmer. Hecate has rose gold shimmer.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Glinda is more orangey than Colorverse a Scorpii.

Tinker bell is closest to Van Dieman’s Seashell.

Hecate and Evil Queen are closest to each other than these other purple shimmer inks.

Longer Writing:

The first two inks had dry flows, the second two had average flows. I used a Taroko Enigma notebook.

Overall, I had fun testing these inks out. Glinda and Tinker bell are too pale and dry for me. Evil Queen and Hecate are pretty similar to each other, you probably don’t need both.

Ink Review #2465: Pelikan 4001 Turquoise

Today’s ink is Pelikan 4001 Turquoise. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

The color:

Turquoise is a medium turquoise blue.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has a bit of pink sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, low pink sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and a few dots of bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Comparison Swabs:

Turquoise is similar to Diamine Havasu Turquoise. Click here to see the blue inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Pelikan M600 Turquoise White with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a dry flow.

Overall, this ink is dry, but it works really well in wet Pelikan nibs. This is a nice turquoise blue, bright and lovely.

Today’s ink is Pelikan Edelstein Topaz. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

The color:

Topaz is a bright turquoise blue.

Overall, this ink is dry, but it works really well in wet Pelikan nibs. This is a lovely turquoise blue, perfect for the summer!

Sapphire is a medium royal blue.

I used a Waldmann Xetra Vienna with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a dry flow.

Overall, this ink is dry, but it works really well in wet Pelikan nibs. This is a great basic everyday blue! If you have Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue than you probably don’t need this one.

Diamine Inkvent 2023 Days 21-25

It’s that time of year! It’s time for the 2023 Diamine Inkvent Calendar. Let’s take a look at days 21-25. You can find the calendar for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

Left to right: Tranquility, Tinsel, Fireside Snug, Sugar Snap and Raise a Glass.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 40-70 seconds

Water Resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All five have low shading. Tranquility has green shimmer. Tinsel has red shimmer. Sugar Snap has silver shimmer and Raise a Glass has low gold sheen and blue shimmer.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Tranquility is brighter than Van Dieman’s Mad Half Hour.

Tinsel isn’t quite as bright as Van Dieman’s Red Lightning.

Fireside Snug is a little brighter than Kobe Arima Amber.

Sugar Snap is similar to Ancient Song Song of the Yan.

Raise a Glass is similar to Dominant Industry Tanzanite.

Longer Writing:

All five inks had average flows. I used a Taroko Enigma notebook.

Overall, I really like all five of these. They are well behaved and nice colors.

The color:

Royal Blue is exactly what it sounds like-a medium royal blue.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has a bit of pink sheen.

Overall, this ink is very dry, but it works really well in wet Pelikan nibs. This is a great basic everyday blue!

Diamine Inkvent 2023 Days 16-20

Left to right: Merry & Bright, Lavender Frost, Blizzard, Cinnabun and Astral.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 20-60 seconds

Water Resistance: Low

Feathering: None except for Cinnabun.

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None except for Cinnabun.

Other properties: Merry & Bright has low shading and champagne shimmer. Lavender Frost and Blizzard both have low shading and silver shimmer. Cinnabun has low shading. Astral has low black sheen and green shimmer.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Merry & Bright is darker than Diamine Golden Oasis.

Lavender Frost is darker than these other purple inks.

Blizzard is close to Nemosine Blue Snowball Nebula Twinkle.

Cinnabun is a little warmer than Robert Oster Caffe Crema.

Astral is similar to Diamine Solstice.

Longer Writing:

The first three inks had average flows and the last two were slightly wet. I used a Taroko Enigma notebook.

Overall, I think Merry and Bright is my favorite out of the five, it’s perfect for the Christmas season. Cinnabun had too much bleeding and feathering for me, but that’s not surprising since it’s a scented ink.

The color:

Blue Black is a medium blue black.

Overall, I really like this ink. Yes, the flow is dry but it works really well in wet Pelikan nibs.

Overall, I really enjoyed this ink. Yes, the flow is dry but it works really well in wet Pelikan nibs. This ink is worth a try!

Brilliant Black is a medium black ink.

I used a Pelikan M605 Black Tortoise with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a dry flow.

Overall, this is a good classic black ink with a little shading and sheen. It is very dry, but works really well in wet Pelikan nibs.
