I caught pink eye this week, and fell behind my posting schedule, so today I’m playing catch up. Today’s next ink is J Herbin Bleu des Profondeurs, which I will now refer to as BDP. This ink was released this year, and is available in 10ml and 30ml bottles. Thanks to Pen Chalet for sending a bottle over for review.

The color:

BDP is a beautiful dark blue, almost a navy.

Swabs:

In large swabs there is just a little bit of bronzy sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 20 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: Low-there was some feathering in the flex nib on Rhodia.

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: Low

Other properties: no shadinglow sheen, and no shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was just a little bit of feathering, and some bleeding in the flex nib.

Comparison Swabs:

Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Colorverse 2 Proxima B, J Herbin Bleu des Profondeurs, and Colorverse 33 Depth. Proxima B is a bit darker, Depth is a bit brighter. Click here to see the J Herbin inks together.

Longer writing:

I used a broad Pelikan M805 Ocean Swirl on an ivory Hippo Noto Notebook. The ink had a nice wet flow.

Overall, I like the wet flow this ink has, and it’s a nice color. My only issue with this ink is that it’s so wet that it causes some bleeding in flex nibs on all papers.
