Ink Review #2046: J Herbin 1670 Violet Imperial

Let’s take a look at J Herbin Violet Imperial from the 1670 collection. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including JetPens. Thanks to Execlair for sending this ink over for review!

The color:

Violet Imperial is a medium violet with shimmer.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has plenty of gold shimmer.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

• EF Pilot Vanishing Point

• F, M, B Pilot Ishime

• Vintage Mabie Todd Swan (flex nib)

• Rhodia Goalbook

• Taroko Enigma notebooks (68gsm TR)

• Leuchtturm A5

• Pen & Gear Paper from Walmart

Dry time: 50 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, no sheen, and gold shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Longer Writing:

I used a Platinum 3776 Nice Lavande with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I enjoyed this ink. It’s well behaved for a shimmer ink and is a nice color. I don’t know that I like it better than J Herbin Amethyste de L’oural simply because I prefer silver shimmer over gold.
