Lennon Tool Bar 2019 Autumn Inks
/Shigure Inks recently started carrying Lennon Tool Bar inks from Taiwan. Today we are taking a look at the Lennon Tool Bar 2019 Autumn collection which includes: Pomelo, Saira and Taiwan Golden Rain. Thanks to Shigure Inks for sending the inks over for review!
Swabs:
Left to right: Pomelo, Saira, and Taiwan Golden Rain.
Writing samples:
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Water resistance: Medium
Feathering: Low-there was some feathering in the flex nib on Leuchtturm and Rhodia.
Show through: Medium
Bleeding: Low-there was some bleeding on Leuchtturm in the flex nib.
Other properties: low shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.
On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was lots of feathering in every nib size as well as a lot of bleeding, so I would not recommend these inks for cheap paper.
Comparison Swabs:
Pomelo is lighter than Taccia Uguisu Olive Green, but has a similar tone.
Saira is similar to Sailor Ink Studio 223 but lighter and lacks 223’s undertones.
Taiwan Golden Rain is less saturated than Robert Oster Lipstick Red, but similar in tone.
I used a Lochby Lined Refill A5 notebook (Tomoe River 68gsm). All of the inks had a wet almost watery flow.
Overall, of the three Pomelo is my favorite. I love the color and the little bit of shading. Saira is the wettest of the three, almost gushing in a Pelikan medium nib. Taiwan Golden Rain is my least favorite of the three, just because I’m not crazy about unsaturated reds, but it’s still rather well behaved. All three have a wet, almost watery flow which works very well in small or dry nibs, but can be a bit overwhelming in large wet nibs.
