Ink Review #2856: Pennonia Napnyugta Sunset

Let’s take a look at Pennonia Napnyugta Sunset from the Standard collection. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers, my sample came from Vanness Pens.

The color:

Napnyugta Sunset is a medium orange.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks more red than on the Col-o-ring swab.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm, as well as on cheap copy paper.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had feathering in all nib sizes and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Napnyugta Sunset is lighter than Pilot Iroshizuku Yu-yake. Click here to see the orange inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Kaweco Al-sport Akkerman Orange with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has an average flow.

Overall, I thought this ink would be easily read because of how bright the swabs are, but in writing I found it a little too light. Other than that it’s well behaved and a nice color.

Heure Dorée is warmer toned than Van Dieman’s Neptune’s Necklace.

I used a Taroko Enigma notebook. All five had dry flows.

Overall, these inks are okay, but not my favorite simply because they are too dry for me.

Grateful for Octobers Ink Palettes

It’s finally October! Fall is my favorite season, so I’ve been waiting for it to roll around. My sweaters, hot chocolate and fall candles have been out for a while, hoping to bring in the cooler weather. In the autumn I love to use more muted colors, lots of deep reds, purples, oranges and olive greens. Monteverde Blueberry Muffin is an ink I’m loving right now.

I swear I reach for Bungubox Sweet Potato Purple every fall. It flows really well and is a great color.

I live in Washington State, and apple season is just ending. The fields have been picked and there are apples for sale everywhere. Diamine Red Dragon is a lovely red, one I use often.

Robert Oster Graphite is a fabulous dark grey, but I also love KWZ Grey Lux right now.

I’m so grateful for Octobers! I hope you have a great month!
