Ink Review #2053: Colorverse A Scorpii

Let’s take a look at Colorverse A Scorpii from the Colorverse Project Collection. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

The color:

A Scorpii is a medium coral pink.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks less coral, more straight pink.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, no sheen, and blue shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Longer Writing:

I used an Esterbrook Estie Pink Sands with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had a dry flow.

Overall, I enjoyed the color but the flow is a bit dry for me.

PenBBS Season 24

Let’s take a look at 5 inks from PenBBS Season 24. My samples came from Vanness Pens but they are no longer carrying the brand so I’m unsure where you can purchase them.

Swabs:

Left to right: Rose, Iron, Tong and Heron.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 40-70 seconds

Water Resistance: Low

Feathering: Rose had high feathering, the rest had none.

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: Rose bled, but the rest were fine.

Other properties: Rose had silver shimmer. Tong and Heron had low shading and Iron had low shading and medium pink sheen.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was lots of feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Rose is closest to Van Dieman’s Moon Jellyfish.

Iron is similar to Diamine Yuletide.

Tong is a little more pink than Van Dieman’s Tasmanian Robin Pink.

Heron is similar to Robert Oster Muddy Grass.

All of the inks had an average flow except Rose which had a wet flow.

Overall, Rose is my least favorite due to the bleeding and feathering and Iron is my favorite.

The color:

Rose Rage is a bright rose pink.

Overall, this is a lovely pink color, but it does have a little bit of feathering on some papers.

Overall, I like the color of this ink but there is a touch of feathering on some papers.

The color:

Violet Imperial is a medium violet with shimmer.

Longer Writing:

I used a Platinum 3776 Nice Lavande with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I enjoyed this ink. It’s well behaved for a shimmer ink and is a nice color. I don’t know that I like it better than J Herbin Amethyste de L’oural simply because I prefer silver shimmer over gold.

The color:

Muddy Grass is a deep olive green-brown.

Overall, this ink is lovely. It’s an interesting color and has some nice shading.

Ink Review #2044: J Herbin Green Lemon

Let’s take a look at J Herbin Lemon aka Green Lemon from the J Herbin scented collection. This ink smells like lemon (obviously). You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Lemon is a bright chartreuse green.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks darker, more leaf green.

Lemon is close to Ferris Wheel Press Frivolous Lime. Click here to see the green inks together.

Overall, this ink has some pro’s and con’s. Pro’s: slightly wet, bright color, fast drying and water-resistant. Con’s: way too much bleeding and feathering on every paper to be usable. This ink did dump a full converter of ink into the pen cap when stored flat. Based on behavior this ink is a no for me.

Left to right: Nahan, Isabela, Ibid, Tandikan and Haribon.

Dry Time: 15-30 seconds

Water Resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All 5 had medium shading and shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was lots of feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Nahan isn’t very close to any of these.

Isabela is more orange than these other pink inks.

Ibid is close to Dream Inks Garden.

Tandikan is similar to Dream Inks Mermaid. Haribon is closest to Robert Oster Violet Dreams.

Longer Writing:

All 5 inks had a dry flow.

Overall, Nahan is my favorite out of the five simply because I think it’s the most legible. All five colors are a bit unique, but are rather pale and can be hard to read in the smaller nib sizes.

The color:

Deep Pine Forest is a deep forest green.

Overall, I really enjoyed this ink. It’s a lovely dark color with some nice shading. This is last year’s special edition ink so grab a bottle before it’s gone!

Pennonia and Cult Pens have teamed up to create some exclusive inks! Let’s take a look at Regal Crimson, Ice Mint and Night Blue. Thanks to Cult Pens for sending these inks over for review!

Other properties: All 3 had medium shading and Night Blue had low red sheen.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was lots of feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Regal Crimson is less saturated than PenBBS Before the Break.

Ice Mint is close to Tono & Lims Akita.

Night Blue is a little lighter than Laban Artemis.

Longer Writing:

All 3 inks had an average flow.

Overall, Night Blue is my favorite out of the three. Ice Mint is a great color, but can be too light in smaller nib sizes so I would stick to medium and broad nibs.
