Ink Review #1885: Inkebara Deer Brown

Inkebara Deer Brown is from Inkebara’s Special Edition collection. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Deer Brown is a medium khaki brown.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks much darker.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 50 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, low black sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink did really well-no feathering or bleeding.

Longer writing:

I used a Pelikan M400 White Tortoise with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, I really enjoyed this ink. It’s an interesting color and well-behaved. I would use this ink most often in the autumn season.

Ink Review #1884: Inkebara Pale Violet

The color:

Pale Violet is a pale lilac purple.

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has some interesting shading.

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink did really well-no feathering or bleeding.

Longer writing:

I used a Kaweco Sport Lilac with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, this is an interesting ink, but it can be rather pale in the smaller nib sizes so I would stick to medium and broad nibs.

Ink Review #1883: Kyo-no-oto 10 Ochiguri-iro

Today’s ink is Kyo-no-oto 10 Ochiguri-iro. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Ochiguri-iro is a medium brown.

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink looks much darker, almost black.

Overall, I like the color of this ink but the flow is very dry.

Ink Review #1882: J Herbin 1670 Shogun

J Herbin Shogun is from the 1670 collection, and was released in 2021. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Shogun is a deep brown-black.

Overall, this is a lovely dark brown ink. I like that it’s very different from the other brown shimmer inks I have.

Diamine Inkvent 2021, Part 3

Let’s take a look at 5 more inks from the 2021 Diamine Inkvent calender (these inks are now known as the Red Edition). We’ve already covered days 1-10 so let’s take a look at days 11-15. These inks are available in full bottles now.

Swabs:

Left to right: Party Time, Stargazer, Ruby Blues, Red Robin and Night Shade.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 30-50 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All but Stargazer have medium shading. Stargazer has monster red sheen and blue shimmer. Party Time has blue shimmer and Ruby Blues has high pink sheen.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was lots of feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Party Time is a bit brighter than Diamine Magenta Flash.

Stargazer is darker than Diamine Storm.

Ruby Blues is similar to Akkerman Shocking Blue.

Red Robin is close to Taccia Sharaku-akasakura.

Night Shade is darker than PenBBS Diamond.

All five inks had an average flow.

Overall, Stargazer and Night Shade are my favorite out of the five, but all are well-behaved.

Grey Lux is a deep grey.

Overall, this is a good standard grey-no shading, sheen or shimmer but a nice dark color.

August Navy Blues Ink Palettes

August has barely started and it’s already going too fast. This month I’m using a lot of blue black and navy inks. I love all five of these inks and use them often.

Mariner 4 is my favorite ink from this palette, I just love the color!

Bungubox 4B is my favorite from this palette, it’s so smooth but unfortunately super pricey too!

PenBBS Season 17 & 18

PenBBS has so many inks! Let’s take a look at three inks from Season 17 & 18: Phoenix Dance, First Love and Flower’s Reflection. I got these inks from Vanness Pens but they no longer carry them.

Other properties: First Love and Flower’s Reflection have medium shading and Phoenix Dance has gold shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was feathering in every nib size as well as some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Phoenix Dance is similar to a lot of other yellow inks.

First Love is closest to Colorverse Opportunity.

Flower’s Reflection is lighter than these other grey inks.

All three inks had a dry flow.

Overall, out of the three First Love is my favorite, but all three inks are too dry for me.

The color:

Bling is a medium grey.

I used a TWSBI Eco Cement with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink had an average flow.

Overall, this is a lovely ink. It’s well-behaved, a nice color, and easily read even in small nibs.
